Introduced in the 1988 model year, the NP231 case is aluminum cast, chain driven, and part of the Command Trac series of transfer cases. These cases were built for not only durability but simplicity as well, providing for easy servicing and possible upgrades as well. Applications that this case is seen on include the Cherokee, Comanche, Grand Cherokee, Liberty, Wagoneer, and Wrangler.
